Facing Mount Jefferson
I was inspired by the clouds passing over this mountain in West Jefferson one early morning in June. They created the neatest shadows and shades of blue that I wanted to try to capture in this plein air practice piece. I was also drawn to the crisp contrast between the trees and the pond which made a very calm and peaceful rendering. I started out with an imprimatura of burnt sienna and then made several passes of color to create the atmospheric depth.
