This acrylic-on-paper painting was inspired by my visit to the 16th-century Arrábida Convent in Portugal. Between the ragged coastline, forested mountains and stunning ocean views, Serra da Arrábida is one of Portugal's most beautiful natural coastal areas. When I was visiting I was lucky enough to witness a sun dog, a rare atmospheric optical phenomenon that can be described as a halo around the sun, which I tried to depict in this painting.
