NEAR HYDEN
I saw this scene while on a plein air trip in regional ("outback") Western Australia. It immediately caught my eye and as I stopped and studied it, I was reminded of a simple still life, except the fruit had been replaced by trucks and the cloth backdrop by a large shed. The arrangement of the vehicles was near-perfect, so very little artistic licence was needed to make this painting. It was late afternoon and the light was warming and the shadows growing, so time was tight. It is among my favourite plein air paintings.
