Old Piketon High
Old Piketon High School, demolished 2023. This 20x30” pen drawing on illustration board, was completed in 2009 when the building had recently concluded its final use. I used linear perspective, grid, and multiple drawing techniques to accomplish. Every brick, and window that I could observe, is rendered. This beautiful, historical structure stood in the village of Piketon since 1926 and was demolished in 2023. My father graduated in 1972, my mother taught in this building for 20+ years, and my sister graduated 1999. As a child, I roamed the halls of this building after hours while my mother graded papers. I grew to love this building, its character, and was blessed to attend school in this building for a short time before we moved to our new building. To express my appreciation and love for my home community. I completed this 20x30” pen drawing of “Old Piketon High” to celebrate this very district’s impact in my life. I was hired at new Piketon High School in 2009 as their High School Art Teacher, and continue the family legacy in the same district, now 15 years employed. This building forged its future Art Educator. It was sadly demolished this year. I captured its photo reference late 2008 in preparation for this drawing.
