The Fable of the Yellow-rumped Warbler
I live with the seasons and pay attention to the environment, what the animals and plants are doing, and how they are reacting to any changes. When on a dry and scarce rain and food year, after a brushfire took out a large area of my local habitat, the Warblers arrived to overwinter. I was ready to observe and document their survival skills. Sure they showed up at my feeders, but they also scoured the mountains for Laurel Sumac seeds. Despite the fact that it's berries have dried up on the branch, that seed was nutritiously valuable. All I had to do is stay still near a bush and Warblers showed up to get breakfast. I then designed a decorative border as a prequel to this narrative, the Laurel Sumac berry branches before they dried up. Thus I have created a fable.
