Postcard From Tena
"Postcard From Tena" is a little glimpse into the life of Tena Ludemann Kannegieter. It features a postcard dated November 2, 1911, sent from Tena to her sister, Gesina Ludemann Neuberger (my grandmother). It is from the collection of Ruth Neuberger Edleman (my mother). The photo of Tena is surrounded by flowers in the painting to symbolize her garden as she and her husband, Harry, were farmers of the South Dakota land which was sometimes difficult during the dry years of the "dirty 30's" The antique photo album where I found Tena's portrait also contains a bouquet of flowers on the padded cover. The matching cups which belonged to Tena and Harry display sculptured flowers. One cup was a mustache cup with a ledge to hold Harry's mustache! There are dried roses in the still life as well as flowers on the postcard. The tattered book is "Moore's Poetical Works" with all items placed on a white doily to tell the story of Tena!
