The black borders are part of the artwork and are painted with a hot black oil. I use this technique to emphasize the idea that this scene is alive, in motion, just like a cinemascope film. The viewer is invited to create their own story. My dad thinks there's a car with its lights on outside the stage, the reflection of which we see on the tree. Who's in the car? What are they doing?
